Her parents: Her father is a retired police detective and her mother is still a working psychiatrist. Her brother was a semi deadbeat that bounced from job to job until recently, and she's very close to him. Their parents divorced when she was seven and aren't on the best of terms now, although they did make civil when it came to her wedding. Tess is closer to her father than her mother, he comes by the apartment once a month to fry up some salmon fillets that he cuts and cleans himself for them. She's spent more time with her mother now that Tess has taken to Caroline, her second cousin on her mother's side.

Tesla Rose Spencer was born in Santa Barbara, California on February 21st, 1985. The youngest of her parents two children, Tesla came as a complete surprise, born ten years after their son. Tess was quickly the apple of her father's eye, and was a bright, sweet child from the very beginning, often accompanying him to the police station on weekends, earning the love of the entire force that worked with her father. Her mother disapproved of her being there, in case anyone came into the station to fire at the officers so she started to send Tess to a daycare.
It was there where Tess gave her first haircut to a fellow playmate when she got glue in her hair. While this was, by no means, her first good haircut, it started the itch to always be doing something with hair, and the urge to cut. When Tess was newly seven, her mother and father were fighting so much that her mother moved out in the spring, and her parents were divorced by fall. Her brother was just graduating high school, so he became extremely protective of her. In Middle School she met Con Gallagher. Con's grandmother had Tess' mother in her employ, and so they saw a lot of each other on school nights and opted to play more during the weekends.
By this time, Tess was already avoiding boys when it came to the school dances. She continued to avoid them through high school, opted to be more studious instead and many a school dance was spent with Con at the public library laughing at Sparknotes on the required reading for their grade levels and the pictures of naked statues in art books. Tess graduated with honors and the only dance she attended was the prom, and instead of going with the horndog jocks that she knew wanted to get into her pants, Tess took Con so they could ditch the dance early and go for a walk.
Tess' dad wanted her to go to the police academy after high school and her mom wanted her to attend an Ivy League school. Tess opted to move to San Diego instead and attended San Diego City College for cosmetology. Her parents weren't thrilled but after two years of courses she was licensed and had done enough "interning" to work in the nicest salon in the city, and therefore, once Con had graduated high school and chosen to move to San Diego as well she worked it out with him to split an apartment and save drastically on the rent.
A couple of years went by, with Tess moved on to college to study pre-med. Tess bought a small salon that she renovated and business has been good. In the spring of last year she and Con began to date, starting out a bit awkwardly. Things quickly went from weird to warm though, and Con was finally able to admit his love for her. Tess found quickly that she reciprocated his feelings and when his first short story sold, she and Con went to pick out an engagement ring and he proposed to her on the beach. She accepted, and they had the wedding planned for the first week of August but after some fighting, Tess moved out of their apartment, returned his ring and left.

They adopted a second lab, a chocolate female puppy, whom they've named Jill, in September, and were married on their beach on December 19th, 2009. Around Thanksgiving that year Tess' cousin Amy gave birth to a baby girl, Caroline, right around the time she found out her ex-con husband was screwing around on her. Tess and Con took her for a few overnights to give her a break and quickly fell in love. Amy agreed to let them adopt her, but her soon to be ex-husband has other plans. Right now, legally, they have the upper hand and have 30 hours of visitation with her every week, where they can bring her home and pretty much play mom and dad for the weekend. The adoption may take up to a couple of years, but that timing suits the Gallagher's just fine.
Tess has kept up a vlog of hers and Con's life on Youtube for the past three months or so, and has already gained a pretty impressive following with about 100,000 subscribers to her channel so far. Life has been exhausting between Carrie, school and extra hours earning her extra credit helping out at nearby hospitals. Tess hopes this will speed along her med school years and maybe shorten them by a semester. In late March, she discovered, to her chagrin, that she's expecting the couple's first biological child. Though she leaned heavily toward terminating the pregnancy, she gave in to Con's insistence that they could handle it and is slowly coming to accept it in less of a negative light.
